Big Cedar Wilderness Trails is located atop one of the most breathtaking escarpment areas in North Texas. Boasting the highest elevation in the city of Dallas, BCWT winds through cedar and hardwood forest and descends quickly into a valley in a dramatic elevation change. The valley consists mostly of mesquite trees and cactus. At this time, BCWT has ten+ loops ranging from beginner to advanced. They all come off and return to the main trail called Ranger (white). Each is marked by colored arrows. More trails are under construction.

4worldlovers: Online Bike Coach offers a unique, data-driven approach to wattage training for cyclists and triathletes at all levels.

I started developing the techniques that would become OBC in 2003. I had just published my book, Watts Per Kilogram, the first-ever indoor wattage training manual for cyclists. The use of ergometers was in its infancy, and limited to athletes with professional coaches and unlimited training time.

In 2006, I opened Cycling Center Dallas, a studio built for busy professionals with careers and families in addition to their passion for riding.

I challenged myself to apply the techniques of elite wattage training to deliver more results in less time—preferably just 2 or 3 sessions a week at 30-90 minutes per session.

To accomplish this, I needed very sophisticated analysis tools that delivered real-time data throughout a training session. Immediate feedback meant a rider could fine-tune their efforts by squeezing more wattage—and therefore better results—out of specific intervals or workouts. This is a technique usually done under the experienced eye of a professional coach in 1:1 training sessions. Through long experience, the coach knows the rider and knows when to push them for maximum results.

But with the right metrics, I believed the same technique could be used effectively with riders at home. Except, those metrics simply didn't exist…yet.

Fast-forward to 2014 and 2016, with the development of W1 ("W-prime") and more recently, MPA. These new metrics show the precise level of your remaining available energy and wattage as a percentage or in kilojoules, respectively. And that’s the secret. OBC’s approach uses advanced metrics and analytics, not available from other coaching programs, to create more tightly focused workouts that deliver better results—in stamina, speed, strength and skill—in less time.

4worldlovers: Oak Cliff Nature Preserve (OCNP) is a 121-acre oasis of green space located right in the middle of urban Dallas. There are over eight miles of multi-use hike and bike trails coursing through the Preserve. Open dawn until dusk, bird and plant enthusiasts, bicycle riders of all ages, and those just wishing for peace and quiet visit the preserve to connect with nature every day.


OCNP has been supported over the years by the Dallas Off-Road Biking Association (DORBA). We are proud of our ongoing partnership with DORBA, but please note that the trails here are entirely multi-use. Normal yielding practices apply, so bikes yield to pedestrians. Bike riders should be aware that families, runners, other bikers, dogs and hikers may be around the next corner. Ride in control, slow down when you see others and always yield with a smile.


Although you may start your adventure right in the middle of Dallas, please keep in mind that OCNP is a 121-acre preserve and is home to a variety of wild species. Proper preparation and precautions can help keep you and the critters safe. Always bring plenty of water and your cell phone so you can pull up the OCNP interactive trail map.
