For over 40 years, Dallas native Tony Sandone has provided beautiful, freshly harvested Christmas trees to his community.

Home for the winter break during his first year of college, Tony was earning money cooking at his parents’ restaurant, Michelino’s Italian Restaurant in Lakewood, when he got a call that the Christmas tree lot at Medallion center could use some help.

Tony, eager to do something different, agreed to split his time working at both the restaurant and tree lot during his holiday break. For the next couple of years, Tony continued to support the Christmas tree lot during his breaks from college and enjoyed learning about the trees, the community, and the business. After graduating from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and returning to Dallas, Tony was approached to take over the Medallion center tree lot.

What began as a part-time job that Tony had accepted to escape working full-time in the kitchen of his parents’ business led to Tony launching his own business in 1978, Sandone Christmas Trees.

Over the next several years, the lot remained in Medallion center until Tony opted to move the growing business to Greenville Avenue. Sandone Christmas Trees had gained a loyal customer base as Tony continued to expand his services and provide customers a more personalized experience. He learned quickly that making life easier for his customers was almost as important as the tree itself; putting the stand on the tree, delivering the tree, and even picking up the tree after Christmas are all services Sandone Christmas Trees provide. In 1989, Sandone’s began to put lights on the customers’ Christmas tree, and has since become the most requested service. Three years later, in 1992, that customer demand brought Sandone Christmas Trees to their current location, behind Keller’s Drive-In on Northwest Highway.

At the end of the day, Tony’s passion is still all about the tree. Tony takes pride in personally selecting his trees, traveling to Michigan, Washington and North Carolina to secure the highest quality and best varietals for his customers. He understands their seed source, how to hand prune the trees, and the importance of spacing branches for perfect ornament hanging. Cut at the very last minute, the trees are then trucked to Dallas and stored under tents to ensure the healthiest, freshest possible Christmas trees. They are kept out of the sun and always standing in water to help maintain their great color and fragrance. The integrity of the trees and Tony’s personalized customer service is what brings customers back, year after year.
