The City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department is proud to operate a state-of-the-art indoor swimming pool on the shores of Bachman Lake. Renovated in 2008, Bachman Indoor Pool is open to the public and offers a wide variety of classes and fitness programs for people of all abilities from children to seniors.

Bachman Pool features five 25-meter lanes, spa, locker rooms with individual showers and changing areas, a family restroom, an ADA entrance ramp and lifts and UV sanitation that offers swimmers state of the art protection from recreational waterborne illnesses and a slip resistant, cushioned deck and locker room flooring.

If you are new to swimming start here! This two-week swim program for adults offers nine hours of individual instruction in and out of the water. By the end of this program you will be able to confidently float, submerge, tread water, and swim proficiently on all sides.


Our fitness class introduces you to swimming drills and aquatic exercises. You will learn advanced swimming techniques while burning fat, strengthening muscle and having a great time! Classes are created from a combination of core workouts, strength training exercises and swimming workout drills.


Private lessons for all types of adult swimmers. This private lesson allows you to advance at your comfort level and pace with one on one instruction. Through gentle guidance, understandable techniques, and exploration in the water, your comfort level will increase and your confidence will soar.

I was born and raised in South Africa, blessed with encouraging parents and an excellent swimming coach.

As a teenager, I was fortunate enough to be selected as a member of the South African National Swim Team. At 18, I was recruited to the USA by Southern Methodist University (SMU) on a swimming scholarship where I captained the team my senior year. During my time at SMU, I was awarded the NCAA Division 1 All-American seven times.

I am now a certified Miracle Swim Instructor, where I have coached the North Haven YMCA's Special Olympics’ Swim Team. I am also currently an Adjunct Professor at Southern Methodist University - Department of Applied Physiology & Wellness.

Sooo much fun learning how to swim with John! 100% worth the cost and then some. I enjoyed it so much that I signed up for the level two class. I love the water even more now that I know how to swim in it!!!

Coach and I had a delightful chat. However, the water heater was broken, and the pool was too cold for me. I am very interested and motivated to take lessons. So, I hope that there will be a cancellation for May, and if not, I look forward to taking them in June. Thanks, Sally Earnest

The Holmes Aquatic Center is located at 3501 Lovers Lane within Curtis Park. The complex offers a 50-meter pool, a giant water slide, 3-and 1-meter diving boards, and a walk-in ramp to aid handicapped accessibility. A separate pool, with an aerated fountain and shaded area, is available for younger children.

The complex is open from late May through Labor Day. The facility is available for University Park residents and those who reside in the Highland Park Independent School District only. Jump into summer with our Aquatic Programs! We offer swim lessons for children ages 3 and older. We also have a swim team for swimmers ages 5 to 17.

Pool passes can be purchased in person at the Holmes Aquatic Center or online using an existing RecTrac account.
