In 2009, The Flame Foundation was founded by flamenco dancer and theater actress Delilah Buitrón and culinary chef/musician Troy Gardner. Inspired by a vision to bring flamenco to a wider audience, The Dallas Flamenco Festival was launched in 2009. The festival featured high quality flamenco performances and workshops lead by professional visiting guest artists. Since 2009, The Dallas Flamenco Festival has received international acclaim with interest from many professional flamencos from Spain and around the world, providing performance and training opportunities for flamenco oficionados in Dallas.



With the support of Ochre House Theater, the Office of Cultural Affairs, and our generous patrons, The Dallas Flamenco Festival has grown exponentially. In addition to the flamenco workshops and classes, the festival now features children and adult student performances lead by professional flamencos, and a theatrical flamenco collaboration with Ochre House Theater.


Since Flame's inception of its major and longest running project, The Dallas Flamenco Festival, five very successful dance-theater collaborations have been produced with Ochre House Theater, beginning in 2012. In 2014, one of their collaborations, PERRO Y SANGRE, went on tour to New York City and performed at LATEA Theater.


The Flame Foundation reached a dream community educational goal by launching two free after school FLAMENKITOS programs at Sanger Elementary (DISD) and a FLAMENKITOS program at the Estudio Flamenco Conservatory of Dallas. Recently, more of Flame's Flamenkitos programs have been included as part of the Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs artistic programming for 2017-2020 season.

Sherrie Zantea, known by her stage name, Candy, is a luminary in the Dallas poetry community. She is the brilliant leader behind the Dallas Poetry Slam organization and has been making literary history for more than 20 years. Her chapbook, Oak Cliff-Hangers: Stories in a Snow Globe (Deep Vellum Publishing, 2021) reflects on growing up in Oak Cliff with heartbreaking candor and soaring hope.

As your friendly neighborhood poet, I’ll be honest: I don’t read many novels, but this book’s heartrending characters, cross-country trek, and magical realism had me hooked.

Matthew W. Baker’s debut chapbook Undoing the Hide’s Taut Musculature (Finishing Line Press, 2019) is a visceral and incisive exploration of what it means to have a body. Baker’s poems delve into mortality, illness, surgical interventions both elective and necessary, and radical changes both voluntary and beyond the speaker’s control. Loretta Diane Walker is treasure in the Texas poetry community. Fortunately (for the audience), she is surrounded by an eccentric collection of family, friends, and strangers who in turn know exactly what this broken woman should do to restore her peace.
